Please note the prerequisites as they are mentioned in the class description, however if you are unsure as to whether or you should join a particular class, feel free to be in touch by writing info@stringschool.com and describe your experience. New students with experience are welcome to schedule a consultation and/or arrange to visit a class to see what it is like. Also, please don't be shy! These classes are fun, imaginative and you will learn to play with really great classmates!
If you've had experience but you feel it's been too long and would like to start from the beginning reviewing the fundamentals, please click here and select "beginner classes".

about your teacher : ed davis
Over the past years, I've been delighted to help people make violin and viola playing a part of their lives.
I've been teaching privately for 20 years in Seattle and Olympia Washington, and Eugene Oregon. While in Eugene I taught for the 4J School District as an orchestra director and conducted sectionals and auditions for the Eugene Youth Symphony. I've also been on the faculty of the Suzuki Institute of Seattle, Tacoma Youth Symphony Music Camp and director of the Thalia Olympic Music Camp.

"Finding Ed's school was definitely a rare treat! As an adult, it's difficult to find group classes that give you the personal attention you need to progress, as a beginner. For me, as someone who's never played any instrument before, this was a great opportunity to start. It's amazing how much you progress. It was intimidating at first to start as an adult beginner, but Ed is a really cool teacher who is able to listen and respond to your concerns. He is a trained professional with a broad range of experience and interests, but he doesn't make you feel as if he's unapproachable. This would be a great experience for anyone just starting out. Class sizes are usually small, so there's definitely no lack for attention! A great way to learn something new this summer!" ~ Jennifer R., NYC more student comments

how to enroll in a class & cancellation policy
To enroll in any class, please click the "Enroll" button and your class will be added to a shopping cart. Once you have finished selecting a class and made the Pre-tuition / reservation fee *, you place in the class is reserved. (Before you check-out please have a look at the Workshop page too!)
* Because classes are kept small with limited enrollment, and that there are administrative and physical costs, there is a cancellation policy. If you need to cancel your enrollment, you may do so up until 2 weeks before the first class with a $40 penalty, that is, if you paid $100, $60 will be returned to you. If you are canceling inside of 2 weeks prior to the first class, or after classes have started, your entire fee paid will be forfeit if your place in the class is not filled. Please consider that if you enroll, your place in class is saved for you - this policy is in place to keep small classes going and on budget even in the unfortunate event a student can't attend. Thank you for your understanding!
Please continue to scroll down this page for more info and class listings!

Q: I've been our of playing for some time and am not sure which class to take, what should I do? A: Best to write and schedule a consultation or, if a class has already begun, come visit to observe! From there we can figure out what might be best for you and you can decide if the class is something you'd like to do. If you wish to visit a class, please be sure to write first to confirm that we are meeting any particular week that you wish to visit and that the class is open for entry.
Q: If it is ok for me to join a class that has already started, and if so, what will my tuition be? A: Please ask, tuition would be pro-rated if you are joining after missing classes so that you would only pay for remaining classes in a Series. Students may join a Series class after it has started with permission, so please just be in touch!
To come observe or to participate in a violin class that is in session, please write info@stringschool.com.

"Ed is a great teacher who makes learning the violin fun without compromising the integrity of the lesson. Each week he builds upon the foundation of the previous week so that real technique is being developed. I can not believe almost a year has gone by! I'm so glad I decided to go for it. If you have always wanted to learn...just do it...you'll be glad you did!" ~ Helga B., NYC more student comments

"I had taken some violin lessons as a child and wanted to pick up where I had left off, but had no idea where to begin. I found Ed on line and jumped at the opportunity. I walked into his class and found a nice mix of people who immediately welcomed me and made me feel comfortable (as a 50+ baby boomer, I had been a little concerned about fitting in). Ed has a great sense of humor, is a great teacher and has a way of directing the lesson toward whatever technique you as an individual may be having difficulty with, without making you self-conscious, and while maintaining the ultimate goal of that lesson for the entire class. I also find that learning with a group helps me gauge where I am in my own personal development and motivates me to try that much harder. After all those years of thinking & wondering if I could or should, I finally feel that I AM A VIOLINIST." ~ Irene K., NYC more student comments
